Mahershalal was 44 years old at time of enlistment, and was 5 feet 11 inches tall, with dark complexion, gray eyes and black hair.

Service included hospitalization in Rome, GA 26 Oct - Dec. 1864. On Hospital Muster Roll at Tripler,  and Camp Dennison. Treated for Chronic Rheum. & Ulceration of Cheek. Chronic Bronchitis.

Mahershalal (spelling variation - Marshall, but given name was Mahershalalhashbaz, which was a Bible name. Isaiah, Chapter 8, verse 1) was born November, 1828 in Butler County, PA, son of John and Elizabeth (Cannon) Kelly. He married Sarah Ann Flickinger in 1866.  They had the following nine children: James born 1867, Malinda 1868, Milton V Kelly, born 1869, Perry 1870, Clara 1874, Hershel, born Aug. 1876, Sarah Elizabeth, born 1878, Flora Belle, born July 1883, Clara A, born 1885. 

Marshall worked as a Coal Miner in 1870, living in Columbiana, OH.

By 1880, they returned to Butler County, PA, and he worked as a laborer.

He applied for an Invalid Pension on 8 Oct 1883.

He died 26 Oct 1908 in Redbank, Armstrong County, PA. He, Sarah and son, Hershel, are buried in Mount Zion Cemetery, Oak Ridge, Armstrong County, PA
